COMACO (Zambia)

Technologies: REDD+ and avoided nitrogen fertilisers

The COMACO project seeks to alleviate pressure on Zambia’s natural resources by promoting conservation agriculture and alley-cropping for food production in rural communities. The forest project began in 2009 and involves 2 000 farmers and more than 500 hectares. Activities have been meticulously monitored by students at the Graduate School of Business (UCT) South Africa. The project has already yielded remarkable crop improvements and sequestrates an estimated 6.5 tCO2e per hectare.
